Many types of weddings exist! It’s hard to narrow down the kind of ceremony that suits you best when there are so many! From vegan to beach-themed, to season-themed, and traditional weddings, the options are virtually endless. Whether you’re a bride or groom-to-be, or you love reading about weddings, this is a must-read. Today we’ll go over a few popular types of weddings.
The Classic Wedding
Sometimes, more is less. Sometimes, simple is best. Although you can get as creative and unique as you want (it is your big day), some couples opt to go for the classic or traditional wedding. Traditional weddings typically involve the venue being a church or religious locale along with these other factors:
- Three-course buffets or a sit-down dinner
- Groomsmen and bridesmaids dressed in formal attire as well as a flower girl and page boy wearing attire that fits the occasion
- The wedding reception taking place in a conference hall, hotel, ballroom, or event center
- Speeches and toasts
- Cutting of the cake
- Mother/son, daughter/father dances
- Jumping over the broom
- Bouquet and garter toss
Destination weddings have their advantages. A lot of couples love them because, in most cases, the host resort or location takes care of a lot of wedding activities. This factor makes the wedding planning process much smoother. Destination weddings are also less costly when couples invite a few close friends and family members to celebrate their union. If a romantic getaway and ultimate relaxation sound fantastic to you, then this option is ideal. What you should also know is that if you prefer to stay local, beach or island-themed weddings are a possibility.
Beach weddings are a little more nuanced than a destination wedding. A destination wedding means that you could travel anywhere, whether it be Florida, Hawaii, or Italy. Beach weddings, well, take place on the beach. A beach wedding can technically double as a destination wedding, if you’d prefer not to have your wedding in Ocean City, Maryland. You may find that Florida beaches or Bermudian beaches are more to your liking. Here are some common factors involved in beach weddings:
- The couple and guests wearing informal, beach-appropriate clothing, typically with no shoes
- The reception usually takes place at a nearby hotel
- The catering, decor, and music complement a beachy wedding
- Like destination weddings, beach weddings are often intimate with only a handful of guests
